Heritage Christian Academy
OUR STORY
Four Decades of Faith
and Excellence
Christian Values Schools
Founded on Faith, Built Through Community

Heritage Christian Academy began in 1984 as Christian Renewal Academy, founded by members of Christian Renewal Church with a simple yet profound vision: to partner with families in providing a Christ-centered education for their children. What started with just a few dedicated families has grown into Christian Renewal Church’s largest outreach and ministry, serving the community of Brunswick and the Golden Isles for over four decades.

From the very beginning, the mission was clear: to assist families and churches of Southeast Georgia in raising godly young men and women who would see the world through the lens of Scripture and be equipped to make a lasting impact for the Kingdom of God. That same mission continues to define who we are today.

Rooted deeply in the life and ministry of Christian Renewal Church, HCA has always called its campus home. Over the years, God’s faithfulness and the generosity of His people have made it possible for our facilities to grow alongside our vision. What began with a single educational building has expanded to include a full gymnasium—used for athletics, classrooms, and fine arts—a ten-classroom upper school building, and additional modular spaces serving both lower and upper school students. Each step of growth has been a tangible reminder of God’s provision and the community’s shared commitment to Christian education.

In 2006, the school embraced a new name, Heritage Christian Academy, to better reflect our ongoing mission: to instill in every student a heritage of faith, truth, and excellence. Our desire is not only to educate minds but also to disciple hearts, nurturing a generation of young people who love Jesus deeply, think biblically, and serve others faithfully.

Christian Renewal Church has always seen HCA as more than just academics—it’s ministry. As we look to the future, we remain committed to partnering with families to raise up students who will impact their world for Christ.

VISION

To assist families and churches in Southeast Georgia in raising godly young

people who think biblically, live faithfully, and serve courageously in every

aspect of life—impacting the world for God's glory and advancing

His Kingdom by living a life of integrity, wisdom, and purpose.

PASSION

The Leadership, Teachers, and Staff at Heritage Christian Academy are deeply passionate about raising up a generation of Christ-centered leaders who are uncompromising

in their faith, steadfast in character, and bold in their service.

With hearts rooted in Scripture and lives marked by wisdom, integrity, and purpose,

we are committed to growing our students in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ

and equipping them to impact every aspect of the Brunswick school community

and beyond for the glory of God.

We believe that through intentional discipleship, biblical training, and authentic relationship building within our community, God will use each student's talents and

gifts to advance His Kingdom and bring lasting transformation to the world around them.

HCA

Our Core Values

Christian Elementary School
Love God

We believe that loving God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength is the foundation of all learning and living. This love shapes how we approach every subject, every relationship, and every opportunity to serve.

Christian Middle School
Love People

Created in God's image, every person has inherent worth and dignity. We cultivate an environment where students, families, and staff are valued, respected, and cared for as beloved community members.

Christian High School
Pursue Excellence

Excellence honors God and develops the gifts He has given each student. We challenge our students academically while supporting them with the individual attention they need to reach their full potential.

College Preparatory School
Choose Joy

Joy is not dependent on circumstances but flows from our relationship with Christ. We create a positive, encouraging environment where learning is celebrated and each student's unique contributions are appreciated.

HCA

Statement of Faith

Heritage Christian Academy stands firmly on biblical truth while welcoming families from various Christian backgrounds. Our Statement of Faith reflects our commitment to historic Christian doctrine.

We Believe:

  • The Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God and our ultimate authority for faith and life.

  • God exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, each fully divine and yet one God.

  • Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, born of a virgin, who lived a sinless life, died for our sins, rose from the dead, and will return again.

  • Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone—a gift from God that transforms our hearts and lives.

  • The Church is the body of Christ, called to worship God, build one another up, and share the Gospel with the world.

  • Christian living flows from our new identity in Christ, characterized by love, service, integrity, and the pursuit of holiness.

As a ministry of Christian Renewal Church, HCA embraces a non-denominational approach that welcomes families who share our commitment to biblical Christianity and desire a  Christ-centered education for their children.

Our Leadership Team

Dr. Edward J. Spurka
Head of School

"My goal is to ensure every HCA student receives an education that prepares them for college and career success and equips them to be Christ-centered leaders in their communities."

- Dr. Edward J. Spurka

Dr. Edward J. Spurka

Dr. Spurka began his education career in Pennsylvania in 1992. He earned two degrees, in Special Education and Political Science, from West Chester University while also starting as quarterback for their football team. He later earned his doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Georgia. Dr. Spurka held many educational positions here in Georgia over the past 27 years, including teaching positions at South Forsyth and Milton High Schools, principal at Roswell High School for eight years, and the founding principal of Cambridge High School and serving for eight years. Dr. Spurka is a four-time recipient of the Governor’s High Performance Principal award, and he was twice named the Outstanding Principal of the Year by the Georgia PTA.

After many years in the Fulton County School System, Dr. Spurka felt called to bring his educational leadership skills and his Christian faith to lead students in Christian-based education. After serving as Head of School at Pinecrest Academy and King’s Ridge Christian School, he was called to serve as Head of School here at Heritage Christian Academy. With a heart for Jesus Christ and a servant heart to serve students, teachers, and the HCA community, he will continue to steward the incredible work God is doing at HCA and advance the HCA values: to Love God, to Love People, to Pursue Excellence, and to Choose Joy. He will enhance and protect our mission, steer us towards our vision, and unapologetically fulfill our purpose to bring every student into a personal growing relationship with Jesus Christ while equipping them to do with excellence all that God has called them to do.

Ed and Leslie will be celebrating their thirty-third year of marriage this December and have two Goldendoodles, Maevis and McCoy. Leslie currently works for Cox Enterprises. Ed and Leslie have two children, Britt and Ann. Britt is currently an attorney in Atlanta and is happily married to Marissa, and they love their Bernadoodle Penny. Ann is heading into her third year as a 1st grade teacher and loves her boyfriend, Reid, and her five-month-old Newfypoo, named Ford. Ed and his family have attended Brownsbridge Community Church. Dr. Spurka is an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and Philadelphia Eagles. He also loves to go on hikes with his pups and play golf.
